Private Control Threatens Milwaukee's Drinking Water

On June 15, 2009, Campaign Against Violence / WI League of Young Voters and many other organizations protested against water privatization of Milwaukee's water system.

Milwaukee officials are considering a risky and expensive way to balance the city's budget:  They want to lease your drinking water system.  in this scenario, a corporation would pay the city an upfront fee for the right to control your water for nearly a century.  Despite the city's intentions, the proposal is no silver bullet for budgetary shortfalls, and it could hurt your pocketbook and your water service.

Making Milwaukee Green Coalition

Milwaukee, WI - A group of concerned central city residents and inner city business owners met for the first time on January 14th, 2009 to discuss the prospects of green collar jobs in the Milwaukee area. The meeting was meant to be a brainstorming session for individuals who are looking for ways to get involved in and discuss the growing green movement.  The meetings are being facilitated by the Campaign Against Violence and The League of Young Voters Education Fund.  Several local elected officials were invited to this unique event.

Homicides Down: Non-Violent Lifestyles Preferred

Homicides Down: Non-Violent Lifestyles Preferred

Milwaukee, WI - Homicides decreased from 105 in 2007 to 71 in 2008.  Of course, no homicides would be the perfect picture as opposed to the lowest in 23 years; I think it is definitely an improvement well worth mentioning.  What were some of the contributing factors to these decreasing numbers? As a member of Campaign Against Violence (CAV) I want to take it a step further and begin to critically look at the contributing factors so that we can maintain a definite decline in total homicides for 2009.  Read More!
